2017 — FBL Takes Leadership
Future Black Leaders assumed leadership of the 8th Annual African American Heritage Celebration, marking the first year the event transitioned into student-led planning and production.
2019 — A New Name, A Deeper Identity
In 2019, the celebration was renamed the Black Heritage Celebration by Future Black Leaders.
The name change reflected FBL students’ belief that the term “Black” better represented their identity, community, and lived experiences.

March 15, 2017 — FBL’s First Official Field Trip
In the semester following its establishment at Fishers High School, Future Black Leaders embarked on their first educational field trip.
FBL students visited the historic Madam C.J. Walker Theatre Center in downtown Indianapolis, where they toured the concert hall and explored the legacy of Madam C.J. Walker—entrepreneur, innovator, and one of the first self-made Black female millionaires.
Students learned about her groundbreaking hair care empire, her impact on Black beauty culture, and her role in shaping Indiana’s cultural history.
The 90s Winter Dance

February 22, 2018 — “All White” Theme
Future Black Leaders introduced the Winter Dance as an alternative student-led event, offering a culturally fresh experience in contrast to traditional Student Government dances like Homecoming and Prom.
The inaugural dance debuted with an All White theme and quickly became a signature FBL tradition.
2019 — “90s” Theme
Building on the success of the first year, the 2019 Winter Dance embraced a vibrant 90s theme, celebrating nostalgia, culture, and student creativity.

The First Annual Black Leadership Summit
The vision for the Black Leadership Summit was created by FBL President Chase Iseghohi, who recognized the need for stronger collaboration and unity among Black Student Unions across Central Indiana.
His idea was simple but powerful: bring neighboring BSUs together for leadership development, community building, and shared empowerment.

This event marked the beginning of what would evolve into a multi-year regional tradition and ultimately a national model for student-led Black leadership programming.

Fishers Equity Awareness & The 48-Hour Demonstration
Future Black Leaders President Mia Morales launched Fishers Equity Awareness in response to urgent community conversations around racial justice, equity, and representation.
In June 2020, the group organized a powerful demonstration in honor of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. It was planned in just 48 hours.
Despite the short timeline, the event drew over 1,000 people, becoming one of the largest student-led demonstrations in the City of Fishers' history.
The demonstration marked a defining moment for youth activism in the community and solidified Fishers Equity Awareness as a catalyst for social change, dialogue, and action.

Juneteenth Jubilee

The First Juneteenth Jubilee
Three weeks after the local demonstrations for Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, Future Black Leaders organized the first-ever Juneteenth Jubilee at Fishers High School — an event centered on healing, celebration, education, and community unity.
The Juneteenth Jubilee was founded and led by a dedicated group of student organizers, including:

The Second Annual Black Leadership Summit
Future Black Leaders hosted the Second Annual Black Leadership Summit at the Forum Credit Union Conference Center, marking a major expansion of the event’s reach and impact.
This year’s Summit welcomed additional high schools as well as students from all four junior highs in the Hamilton Southeastern Schools district hoping to create a broader, multi-level pipeline for Black student leadership, collaboration, and mentorship.
The expansion demonstrated the growing influence of FBL and its commitment to supporting young leaders across grade levels and campuses.

3rd Annual Black Leadership Summit
The 3rd Annual Black Leadership Summit (Virtual)
Future Black Leaders hosted the Third Annual Black Leadership Summit entirely via Zoom, adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This pivotal shift was led by Wodsander Maxime, who was serving as President of Future Black Leaders at the time.
It was Wodsander’s vision and leadership that made the virtual Summit possible. His direction ensured that, even during global uncertainty, FBL continued to uplift, connect, and empower students.
Moving the Summit online not only kept the tradition alive, but expanded access abd brought together students from new regions, and ultimately opened the door for the creation of Future Black Leaders, Inc.

FBL Becomes the Lead Organizer of the Juneteenth Jubilee
As the Juneteenth Jubilee expanded in size and impact, Future Black Leaders officially assumed full leadership of the event — a strategic decision made by then–FBL President Shania Byers.
Her leadership marked the transition from Fishers Equity Awareness to the FBL High School chapter as the primary organizers of the city’s Juneteenth celebration.
Under this new direction, the Juneteenth Jubilee grew into a major citywide event, with FBL collaborating directly with:

Through these partnerships, Future Black Leaders helped elevate the Juneteenth Jubilee into one of the City of Fishers’ most meaningful cultural celebrations.

The 4th Annual Black Leadership Summit
Future Black Leaders hosted the Fourth Annual Black Leadership Summit, marking another year of growth, collaboration, and student-led innovation.
During this Summit, FBL innovator Shania Byers introduced the organization’s first-ever corporate sponsorship model.
She successfully secured a $5,000 sponsorship from the American Licorice Company, a milestone that strengthened FBL’s capacity to fund programs, events, and student opportunities at Fishers High School.
This moment marked the beginning of FBL’s long-term partnership development efforts and set the standard for future collaborations with corporate and community organizations.

Future Black Leaders, Inc. launched its second collegiate leadership council —the FBL Round Table — on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington.

This moment marked a major milestone in FBL’s expansion — uniting high school leaders with college ambassadors and Round Table members across Indiana and beyond.

FBL Collaborates at the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration
Future Black Leaders, Inc. participated in the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration, one of the state’s largest cultural and educational events.
During the weekend, the FBL family partnered with Indiana Black Expo, Ivy Tech Indianapolis, and InvestEd to provide FAFSA and financial aid guidance to high school students from across Indiana.
Special appreciation goes to our Advisory Committee Coordinators, Rylan Harvey and Chloe Michelle, for representing FBL on the panel discussion.
We also extend a huge thank-you to Advisory Committee Member Ashley McClendon for traveling from Philadelphia to support and engage with our students.
This collaboration marked an important step in expanding FBL’s statewide presence and deepening our commitment to educational access and financial empowerment for Black youth.

FBL CEOs Attend the Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition at The Children’s Museum
Future Black Leaders, Inc. was invited to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to celebrate the opening of the new exhibit, Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition.
Our CEOs had the opportunity to walk through the exhibit, connect with community leaders, and engage in meaningful conversations about global leadership and social impact.
During the event, they also met the Purdue University 2024 Nelson Mandela Washington Fellows.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship—part of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)—is a flagship program launched in 2010 to support young African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, mentoring, networking, and community engagement. The program empowers participants to drive economic growth, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across the African continent.
FBL is grateful to The Children’s Museum for inviting us to represent the organization and be part of such an inspiring and globally significant celebration.

The event welcomed alumni from North Central, Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, Lawrence North, Pike, Carmel, and University High School, creating a powerful space for networking, bonding, and strengthening the FBL family across multiple campuses.

Purdue FBL Round Table Hosts the First “Black to School” Weekend
The FBL Round Table at Purdue University launched its inaugural “Black to School” Weekend, a multi-day celebration designed to welcome students into the new academic year and strengthen unity within Purdue’s Black student community.
This landmark event was spearheaded by Purdue FBL Round Table Co-Presidents Nia Person and Jackson Liner, whose leadership brought together 22 Black student-led organizations for a powerful weekend of collaboration, culture, and connection.
Their vision created one of the most unified campuswide efforts among Black organizations in Purdue’s recent history.
Through social gatherings, networking opportunities, and community-building activities, the Round Table helped set a strong foundation for a year centered on partnership, visibility, and collective progress.
This event marked a significant milestone for the Purdue Round Table and reinforced Future Black Leaders’ mission to build collaborative, interconnected Black student communities across college campuses.

National Voter Registration Day — FBL Leads a Nationwide BSU Collaboration
Future Black Leaders, Inc. celebrated National Voter Registration Day by launching a month-long national initiative focused on voter education and civic engagement.
Throughout the month, FBL collaborated with Black Student Unions across the nation to raise awareness about the importance of voting, highlight milestones in Black voting history, and share state-specific voter registration resources.
This campaign strengthened FBL’s mission to empower young Black leaders through civic education and collective action — encouraging students to register, stay informed, and engage with their local communities.

The Black Wall Street Program Celebrates Its First Anniversary
Future Black Leaders, Inc. marked a major milestone as the Black Wall Street Program officially turned one year old—a testament to FBL’s commitment to empowering student innovation, leadership, and Black History Month programming across the nation.
In its inaugural year, the program received over $25,000 in funding requests from student-led organizations and proudly awarded $13,000 to support transformative Black History Month initiatives.

MLK Day of Service with Circle City College Ambassadors
Future Black Leaders, Inc. honored Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a meaningful day of service led by our Circle City College Ambassadors in collaboration with the Circle City Chapter of Jack and Jill, Inc.
Together, the teams hosted an interactive mentorship experience for a group of bright second-grade students, focusing on confidence-building, creativity, and self-expression. Students wrote time-capsule letters to their future selves and created empowering “I Can” affirmations using FBL’s Afrobet—encouraging them to see their potential and recognize that greatness already lives within them.
This event was made possible through the leadership of
Dr. Erica B. Rivera (FBL Advisory Committee Member) and
James Bogan Jr. (Co-Chief Initiatives Officer),
whose vision and coordination helped create an inspiring and heartfelt celebration of Dr. King’s legacy.
This MLK Day initiative reflects FBL’s ongoing commitment to service, youth empowerment, and uplifting the next generation of leaders.

Launch & Creation of the Afrobet: FBL’s Black ABCs Initiative
Future Black Leaders, Inc. launched The Afrobet – Black ABCs, an innovative Black History Month initiative designed to celebrate Black history, culture, and leadership through an A–Z showcase of influential Black figures.
The concept was created by Chase Iseghohi, who recognized the need for students to learn about historical Black leaders who are often overlooked in traditional education. After collaborating with the FBL C-Suite, the team refined and expanded the list of names to ensure the Afrobet represented a wide, diverse, and inclusive group of trailblazers—from activists and scholars to artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural icons.
Throughout February, FBL highlighted each letter, honoring individuals whose contributions shaped the past, influence the present, and empower the next generation of Black leaders.
The Afrobet marked a major step forward in FBL’s educational programming, offering students a fresh and engaging way to interact with Black history and celebrate Black excellence.

The 7th Annual Black Leadership Summit — Hosted by FBL: Fishers High School
Future Black Leaders celebrated a major milestone as Fishers High School Future Black Leaders hosted the 7th Annual Black Leadership Summit, bringing together over 350 Black Student Union leaders from high schools across the region.
As one of the largest Summits to date, the event provided an enriching space for leadership development, cultural empowerment, collaboration, and community-building. Students participated in discussions, workshops, and networking sessions designed to strengthen inter-school relationships and cultivate the next generation of Black leaders.
The success of the 7th Annual Summit reflects the dedication and vision of the FBL: Fishers High School team, whose efforts continue to expand the reach and impact of FBL’s statewide leadership pipeline.
This Summit marked a powerful continuation of the tradition that began years earlier—demonstrating FBL’s unwavering commitment to uplifting, connecting, and equipping young Black leaders at every level.

The First Annual FBL Collegiate Summit
Future Black Leaders, Inc. closed out Black History Month with the First Annual Collegiate Summit, held on February 28 at the Eiteljorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis.
This historic gathering brought together Black Student Unions from 10 colleges and universities, marking FBL’s largest and most coordinated collegiate convening to date.

Induction of the First FBL Ambassador Class — The Angela Davis Class
Future Black Leaders, Inc. proudly inducted its first-ever class of College Ambassadors, known as the Angela Davis Class, during the 7th Annual Black Leadership Summit at the Eiteljorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis.
This induction marked a historic step in FBL’s development, establishing the foundation for a statewide ambassador network dedicated to leadership, mentorship, and campus-to-campus collaboration.
Named in honor of Angela Davis, a global icon of courage, advocacy, and transformative social change, this inaugural cohort embodies FBL’s commitment to empowering young leaders who challenge injustice and elevate their communities.
The Angela Davis Class also recognized Demetrius Foster as its Valedictorian, honoring his exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to the values of Future Black Leaders.
The induction ceremony was led by FBL’s Onboarding Team — Jaden Edmonds, Hannah Warren, and Nyah Gabrielle — whose work ensured a meaningful and welcoming experience for each new ambassador.
The Angela Davis Class marks the beginning of a lasting legacy, expanding FBL’s presence across college campuses and strengthening our mission to build the next generation of Black leadership.

To conclude the 7th Annual Future Black Leaders Leadership Summit, held on February 28th at the Eiteljorg Museum in downtown Indianapolis, Future Black Leaders, Inc. hosted a formal Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding leadership across the organization’s high school, collegiate, and alumni networks.
This ceremony honored individuals and groups whose dedication, impact, and service embody the values of FBL and contribute to the advancement of Black leadership across the country.

Launch of the FBL Minority Health Month Initiative
Future Black Leaders, Inc. launched its first Minority Health Month Initiative, expanding the organization’s commitment to holistic wellness within Black and minority communities. This initiative highlighted the importance of financial literacy, mental well-being, and physical health—core pillars of empowerment for young leaders.

FBL Inc. Launches the First-Ever Juneteenth Games
Future Black Leaders, Inc. introduced a new tradition in celebration of Juneteenth: The Juneteenth Games—a field-day–style competition designed to bring students, families, and community members together through teamwork, culture, and friendly competition.
The inaugural Games debuted as part of the 6th Annual Juneteenth Jubilee, held on June 21st at Sahm Park. This expansion of the Jubilee added an interactive and energetic dimension to the event, strengthening community engagement and highlighting the creativity of FBL’s programming.

North Central Alumni Association Launches the First FBL College Prep Program
Future Black Leaders, Inc. proudly celebrates the launch of the first-ever FBL College Prep Program, hosted by the North Central Alumni Association in partnership with the North Central Black Student Union.
This two-week initiative was designed for incoming juniors and seniors, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to navigate college and succeed beyond high school.
The program created a supportive and engaging environment where students:
Explored college readiness strategies
Learned about financial aid, applications, and academic pathways
Built essential leadership and life skills
Connected with mentors and peers dedicated to their growth
The successful completion of this inaugural program marks a major step in FBL’s expanding commitment to academic preparation and youth empowerment at the high school level.

Black to School: Combined Alumni Cookout & Butter Pecan Bash
Future Black Leaders, Inc. kicked off the new academic year with a special combined celebration — merging the annual Alumni Cookout with the beloved Butter Pecan Bash to create one unified Black to School event.
This joint gathering brought together FBL alumni, students, and supporters for an afternoon of community, culture, and connection.
The event featured:
Throwback-inspired vibes and music, setting a nostalgic and joyful atmosphere
Reunions and networking among alumni from multiple FBL associations and campuses
A generous school supply giveaway, supporting students and families as they prepared for the new school year
A tribute to FBL’s growing alumni network, highlighting the legacy and leadership of past members
By combining the Butter Pecan Bash with the Alumni Cookout, FBL strengthened community ties across generations and created a memorable, unified celebration that honors both tradition and progress.
The Black to School event now stands as a milestone moment in FBL’s commitment to nurturing lifelong connection, support, and engagement within the FBL family.

Third Annual FBL Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) Initiative
Future Black Leaders, Inc. launched its Third Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Initiative, uniting high school, college, and alumni associations across the country for a month-long effort focused on education, prevention, community support, and awareness.
Throughout October, FBL collaborated with a record number of student organizations to host events including breast cancer walks, cookouts, fashion shows, trivia nights, panel discussions, and campus-wide activations.
This expansive initiative strengthened FBL’s national network, mobilizing students to support survivors, honor loved ones, and raise awareness about breast health in their communities.
